Dermatologists say “it is one of the dirtiest parts in your body and probably, people ignore cleaning it due to the fact of it being positioned in a difficult area.” It is the belly button.
Belly button or navel is probably the most ignored part of the human body as far as hygiene is concerned. Belly button left unclean for a long time can lead to dirt, sweat, and bacteria buildup leading to an unpleasant smell and also infection. According to a study conducted by North Carolina State University, an unclean belly button can house nearly 67 different kinds of bacteria which can lead to serious infections. Regular cleaning of it is necessary. Hence, everytime you step into the shower, make it a point to clean it so as to stay away from an embarrassing visit to your doctor’s office.
Described below are few ways of cleaning the belly button
Take a cup of warm water, add a teaspoon or two of table salt, mix it thoroughly, and apply the solution gently inside the belly button using your fingertip or a cotton swab or bud. Once it is done, use clean water to rinse. The method helps prevent foul smell and infection in the belly button.
Take few drops of rubbing alcohol in a small cup and using a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol gently swab the belly button, rinse with clean water, and allow it to dry. Repeat the process if there is a need.
Take few drops of hydrogen peroxide in a small cup, using a cotton ball dipped in hydrogen peroxide gently swab the belly button until it is clean, rinse with clean water and allow it to dry. Repeat the process if there is a need.
Body wash or soap
Apply a little soap or body wash to the belly button, using your fingertip gently rub the inside of the belly button clockwise and anticlockwise for at least 1 to 2 minutes, then rinse it off with water. Do it on a regular basis to keep the navel clean and smooth.
Take some olive oil, apply it gently to the inside of the belly button using your fingertip or cotton bud, and leave it for 15 minutes. The dirt gets soaked and it is easy to remove it. Using your fingertip or cotton bud clean the area. Rinse it with soap water first and then with warm water.
You should clean the belly button regularly using any one or two of the above said methods and you should also be aware that cleaning your belly button is as important as cleaning your face and hands.
