How to Fight Lethargy
I have tried almost everything to boost myself, but I just have not been able to get myself motivated or passionate about anything. No matter what I tried, inevitably I end up back in that same old rut, feeling more frustrated than ever. Sounds familiar?!
Lethargy is described as an extreme lack of energy, fatigue, or tiredness. Lethargy can occur due to lack of sleep or exercise, poor diet, boredom, stress and overworking. In most cases lethargy is a normal response to any of these conditions and can be resolved with proper sleep, regular exercise, a balanced diet, and a reduction in stress factors. If lethargy is chronic and does not reduce or disappear with the normal self-care methods, it is indicative that there is a deeper cause to the condition that may even require medical attention.
Almost everyone suffers from the problem of lethargy at some point of their life. In this condition, a person feels low in energy and quiet inactive. The problem of lethargy can be broadly classified into two categories – physical lethargy and mental lethargy. When a person is physically very tired and is no more able to carry on the work assigned to him at the level of his normal capabilities then he is said to be facing the problem of physical lethargy. And if an individual is not able to understand what is going on around him and is no more able to grasp the things then he can be said to have mental lethargy. Easy and effective home remedies can be tried to get rid of lethargy.

- Eat a good breakfast along with several small meals and healthy snacks throughout the day. Try and limit the size of your meals to 300 calories. This will keep your blood sugar levels steady and help prevent your energy from plunging.
- Go easy on foods high in refined carbohydrates—that is, lots of white sugar or white flour. These foods make your blood sugar rise rapidly, then crash quickly. French bread, spaghetti, and cake are not your best choices. You’ll end up feeling weak and tired.
- Cut an unpeeled potato into slices and let the pieces soak in water overnight. In the morning, drink the juice for a natural tonic brimming with potassium. Your body needs this mineral for transmitting nerve impulses and making muscles move, along with other vital functions.
- Try taking 400 milligrams of magnesium every day. This mineral is involved in hundreds of chemical reactions in the body. It plays a role in changing protein, fat, and carbohydrates into energy sources. A mild deficiency may be the cause of fatigue in some people.
- Keep caffeinated drinks to a minimum. The caffeine in coffee and some sodas can give you a short-term burst of energy, but following that “rush,” there’s typically a “crash.”
- Limit alcohol consumption. Alcohol depresses your central nervous system. It also reduces your blood sugar level.
- Consider taking up yoga .These ancient forms of exercise allow you to get physical activity, but they also include relaxation components that can be reinvigorating.
- Always get up at the same time, even on weekends. Your body will eventually get the hang of the steady sleep schedule.
- Keep naps short. If you snooze more than half an hour during the day, your body will want more, and you will be groggy when you wake up.
- Basil Leaves: Boil a spoonful of basil leaves in water, let the leaves steep for 15 to 20 minutes after which you can strain them out and drink the remaining solution. This concoction should be taken at least a couple of times in a day to keep yourself fresh and active.
- Grapefruit and Lemon Juice: Mix equal quantities of lemon juice and grapefruit juice. Drink one glass of this mixture on a daily basis to ward off fatigue.
- Having a hot water bath is a widely used natural remedy used in the treatment of Lethargy. Citrus oils can be added in steam baths to cure fatigue as naturally as possible.
- Massaging the body with rosemary oil or eucalyptus oil is a useful method of treatment for lethargy.
- Indian Gooseberries: Gooseberries are said to have a lot of medicinal properties and is considered to be one of the best home remedies to treat fatigue.
- Milk with Honey and Licorice: One of the effective home remedies to treat tiredness and fatigue is to drink a glass of milk with honey and licorice. In a glass of warm milk, add 2 tablespoons of honey and a teaspoon of licorice powder. Mix it well and drink this special milk two times a day, morning and evening.
- Spinach: Try and include spinach in your daily diet as it is well known to provide all the necessary energy needed for the body. You can choose to eat boiled spinaches as part of your salad diet. You can also drink soups made of spinach or even include it in your everyday meal.
- Pillows under your Feet: You need to lie on your back at nights and keep your leg in a slightly raised position than your head with the help of pillows. This will help in increasing blood flow to your brain at all times and hence will boost alertness.
- Apples: Make sure that you include apples in your daily diet as it helps in energy boosting.
- Carrot Juice: Drink a glass of carrot juice everyday along with your nutritious breakfast to keep you energized for the whole day.
